The annual police gift collection in Fenland has already begun and needs your help to support families in need this Christmas.
With just six weeks until Christmas, Social Care teams are preparing to provide a gift to each of the children that they help, however they need the public’s help.
The appeal is asking Fenland residents to donate gifts so that care teams can fulfil their gift giving goal.
Insp Morris, of the Fenland Neighbourhood Policing Team who’s running the project this year, said: “I’m pleased to announce we can run our Christmas toy appeal this year, when the hardship faced by families is more apparent than ever.
“But I appreciate that times are difficult, and this year has been tough for a lot of people.
“Therefore, if you are in a position where you can donate, please consider doing so.”
Insp Morris added that only new items are requested for donation and that presents aren’t wrapped although some second-hand electronics like consoles and tablets will be accepted if they work and can be wiped down and cleaned.
Toys, puzzles, board games, sports equipment, Lego, reading books and toiletry sets or beauty kits are all welcome gifts as well as clothes and in particular things for teenagers as they often come in short supply.
Sally Fairbrass, who helps handle the appeal each year and works for Children’s Social Care in Cambridgeshire, said: “The Christmas toy appeal is a wonderful thing to be involved with and allows as many children as possible in Fenland to have a present to open on Christmas Day.”
The appeal, which is accepting donations at March and Wisbech Police Station, is running from now until Friday, December 9.
Donations made to the station should be sealed in a carrier bag or bin bag.
Donations can also be online via websites such as Amazon and Argos however these deliveries must be made out to Sally Fairbrass and sent to Cambridgeshire County Council, Awdry House, Ramnoth Road, Wisbech, PE13 2JD.
If you want to make a donation, bear in mind that donations should be geared towards those up to two years old, three to five, six to 10 and 11 years and older.
