A children’s author from March, Emily Voss, has performed live readings of her new book ‘Hello, I’m New’ at All Saints Primary School in March.
Emily visited her childhood school on Friday, January 13 over 25 years since she left to perform private readings for Years one, two and three, and led an assembly for Key Stage Two's.
She also held a Q&A with the children where they could ask questions about her journey as an author and her inspiration for the book.
Emily said: “It was wonderful! It was my very first reading to children so it was even more special because of this but it was particularly great to see them enjoying and understanding the message behind the story.
“A number of the children have yet to visit London so it was great to introduce them to the various landmarks!”
It was Emily’s old teacher, Holly Baumber, who had taught her in Year three at All Saints and again in Year Six who invited her in to give the readings.
Holly said: “Since leaving All Saints, Emily has gone on to have a wonderful career in the fashion industry.
“The children were very interested to hear this and were inspired by her words.
“It was lovely to welcome Emily back to All Saints and hear all about her new chapters.”
The pair reminisced about school plays and trips from Emily’s time at the school.
The two laughed about the time the school went on a trip to the Norfolk coast when the children were collecting rocks on the beach and Emily said she was “so chuffed thinking I'd found a piece of real amber quartz but it turns out it was actually just an orange jelly bean!”
Emily has donated a signed copy of her book to the school “so it can be shared with children for decades to come!”
She hopes to do more activities and reading with All Saints children in the local community in the summer.
