Budding singers can belt out a showstopping number as pop-up singing experience 'Sing and Tonic' comes to Cambridge.

The musical evening will take place at Cambridge Junction at 7.30pm on Thursday, July 27, and is inspired by experienced musician Marika Newman, with support from award-winning band Fred's House.

In a relaxed environment with drinks, participants - whether beginners or experienced singers - will learn an epic song in three parts and perform it as part of a tipsy choir.

The evening will begin with live music from Fred's House, who will play some of their own music and popular covers, as well as their new single 'Ecstacy'.

Shortly after the Fred's House performance, Marika will take the stage and begin the interactive choir exercise, starting with some simple sing and repeat warm-ups to get the crowd going.

She will also reveal the song the choir will be learning - which will be kept top secret until the night.

The choir will then be separated into three sections, and together they will learn a full song with lyrics on the screen.

Then Fred's House will come back onto the stage, and the whole choir will start to build the song with some of the band's instruments.

Once ready, the choir will sing the whole song with backing from the band. The entire performance will be filmed and performed as a three-part harmony, and Fred's House will finish the evening with their own performance.

Speaking ahead of the event, Marika said: "Setting up a pop-up choir with a difference has always been a dream of mine and I can't wait to get started!

"It’s going to be a boozy musical escapade that will show off everyone’s singing talents to their nearest and dearest.

"Stunning harmonies, drinks with your pals and a top-notch band all in the same night. What’s not to love?

"I’ve picked an iconic and feel-good song that everyone should have heard before.

"It will be upbeat and great fun to learn with different sections singing different (but easy to follow) harmonies."
