Construction work is due to start later in the year on 55 new affordable homes in Gaul Road, March.
The estate, on land east of York Lodge, was officially approved by Fenland District Council earlier this year on March 31.
It is made up of six one-bedroom flats as eight two-bed, 37 three-bed and four four-bed homes which are mainly semi-detached.
Each housing plot within the development will be allocated two off-street parking spaces while each flat will have one parking and one cycle space.
New road, cycling and pedestrian links are also part of the scheme together with 1.9-acres of open and green space, including attenuation ponds.
Documents supporting the original application had planned for 65 homes to built at the side “comprising a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent properties”.
The council’s official decision notice grants approval for 55 homes.
Alasdair Thorne, associate director at planning consultants Marrons, who led the planning application, said: “The UK is in the midst of an ongoing and ever-increasing housing crisis...
“... This brand-new, sustainable, affordable and inclusive community [in Gaul Road] is a huge step towards addressing this emergency.”
Marrons say the development will create around 97 full-time equivalent jobs during the construction phase.
Partner Construction will deliver the scheme, which Mr Thorne says has “an outstanding record of delivering affordable residential schemes”.
He added: “We are looking forward to seeing the project come to fruition in this vibrant market town.”
