In a riveting clash of codes and genders, Park Ladies Football Club fearlessly faced off against the March Bears Rugby Club men's team, trading their familiar fields for a thrilling game of football - and all to raise money for a good cause.

The ‘fun day friendly’, which took place at Parkfield Sports Club in Wimblington on September 24, raised more than £345 for Hot Pots Community Café.

Hot Pots Community Café is a local initiative that provides work opportunities for people with learning disabilities and helps them to develop essential life skills.

Kayleigh Dring, employability co-ordinator for the Hot Pots project, said: "The money raised today will go a long way and help us to continue to support our local community.

"We would like to say a big thank you to all the players, supporters and local businesses for their generosity."

The match itself saw March Bears emerge victorious with a 5-2 win, in what was a spirited and fiercely contested encounter.

Rob Mitchell, manager of Park Ladies FC, said: "Park Ladies have always relied on the superb support of our fans and the local community, so it was brilliant to be able to give something back.

"We've got a tough run of fixtures coming up in October, so the match was a fantastic test of our team's physical strength and determination as well.”

Park Ladies FC face Newmarket Town FC Ladies Development on October 1 at Doddington Recreation Ground in what could be a season-defining game.

They will face high-flying Whittlesey Athletic and Real Bedford Ladies Reserves in the league and Histon FC Ladies Devs in the cup later in the month.
