This photo was taken at the old Papworth Hospital in 1932. The hospital was then a treatment centre for TB and was situated in the tiny village of Papworth Everard.
In the 1930s it was carrying out pioneering work under Dr Pendrill Varrier-Jones.
Fresh air and light work were believed to be central to recovery of the disease, and patient's beds were pushed onto the hospital balconies to maximise the amount of fresh air available!
