The toilet block in March town centre has been demolished.

Work to remove the toilet block near the town bridge began on February 16.

It will be replaced with a new facility, to be built along the western edge of Grays Lane and the riverbank.

A Fenland District Council spokesperson said: "The demolition is a key part of the overall town centre regeneration plans as it will allow the riverside to be opened-up and enhanced, complimenting the new Broad Street layout with a new town centre feature for people to enjoy.

"Plans for the new toilet block will be put before Fenland District Council's planning committee for consideration in the coming months.

"The design intends to retain some of the characterful original features of the current toilet block."

Temporary toilets have been available in March town centre ever since the existing toilet block closed on December 13.

They are located in Grays Lane, just outside the car park of the Octavius site office (old Barclays Bank) and are open daily from 8am to 4pm.

The riverside enhancement is part of the £8.4million March Future High Streets Fund projects being delivered by Fenland District Council with funding from the Government's Future High Streets Fund (£6.4million) and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (£2million).

The Broad Street transformation is being delivered by Cambridgeshire County Council with funding from its March Area Transport Study (£4.2million), the March Future High Streets Fund programme (£3.6million) and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority's Market Towns Fund (£2million).
