A Cambridgeshire man died at a popular travelling destination in Cambodia, an inquest opening into his death has heard.
Matthew Lakey, 30, from the March area, was allegedly found deceased next to an inlet near the sea in Koh Rong.
His death was officially confirmed on February 11.
Caroline Jones, an area coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, opened an inquest into his death on Thursday (April 11).
At the brief hearing held at Lawrence Court, Huntingdon, she said: “Matthew was allegedly found deceased in Cambodia by passers-by.
“He was located next to an inlet near the sea and was presumed to be crossing the stream from one side to the other.”
His body was repatriated back to the UK.
Ms Jones explained a post mortem examination took place at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, on March 13 and she is awaiting the results.
She said: “The preliminary enquiries remain ongoing into the circumstances and in due course an inquest will be held on a date to be fixed.
“I adjourn the matter until that date.”
