A renowned string quartet is set to deliver an 'unforgettable' in Peterborough next week. 

Featuring Anna de Bruin, Thea Spiers, Peter Mallinson and Julia Graham, Brother Tree Sound will be joined by celebrated horn player Ben Goldscheider at Church of St Giles Holme in Peterborough on June 15 at 7.30pm.  

The concert will showcase a selection of 19th Century classics alongside the hotly-anticipated premiere of Peter Fribbins’s new quintet, ‘The Fens’. 

The concert is the second in a new series of events as part of the non-profit initiative Fenlandia, which aims to promote the cultural heritage of the Fenland region.

Fribbins, a distinguished British composer, draws deeply from his personal and familial ties to the villages around Peterborough, particularly Holme. 

His grandfather was born in the village in 1911, and his great-grandmother was part of the choir on the historic ‘floating church’ in the 1890s.

Fribbins's quintet ‘The Fens’ reflects this rich history through its movements, capturing the medieval grandeur of Peterborough Cathedral, the transformative power of the Great Northern Railway through the fenland, and the enduring legacy of St Withburga’s, the floating church.

The concert programme includes: Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartet in F minor Op.95 ‘Serioso’ Peter Fribbins: ‘The Fens’ for horn and strings (World Premiere) Alexander Glazunov: Idyll and Serenade for horn and strings Op.11 Felix Mendelssohn: String Quartet in A minor Op.13

The concert will last approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.
