The A1 was shut last night (Wednesday June 12) between the A421 Black Cat Roundabout and the A428 at Eaton Socon.
A vehicle overturned on the A1 northbound shortly before 4pm and the road was closed soon after.
At 4:49pm, it was confirmed by National Highways that a lorry had overturned, and it was carrying prefabricated concrete walls. Police officers were at the scene leading a "complex recovery".
An hour later, recovery of the vehicle began but traffic on the southbound carriageway had to be held in the process.
By 6pm, the lorry had been righted but a recovery operation was still in place and traffic was still being held on both the northbound and southbound carriageways.
Southbound traffic was released at 6:15pm, however, northbound traffic was still held while a clean up and repair operation took place at 6:30pm.

At 8pm, one lane was temporarily opened on the northbound carriageway to ease delays and congestion, but it was shut again at 9:30pm.
A specialist crane arrived at the recovery scene to remove large concrete blocks that the overturned lorry was carrying.
By 11.30pm, the A1 had fully re-opened.
