A family attraction famous for its huge maize maze is embracing its sporty Olympics theme by hosting a new running event this autumn.
Ahead of the attraction’s first day of opening to the public tomorrow (July 20), it has also been announced The Skylark Run will be held on September 14, 2024.
Bart Woodbine, Event Manager at Skylark, said: "We are all huge sports fans here at Skylark and when we saw that it was the Olympics this year and it's celebrating 100 years we knew this had to be the theme for this year's maze.
“We began the planning at the very start of the year in January, contacting Team GB, speaking to our maze designers and sowing the maize. We like to keep it under wraps right until the last minute so it's a surprise for everyone... even some of the staff!
“We know this year's design has come out brilliantly in the field and looks really strong, we've even managed to keep the weeds which considering all the mild wet weather we've had is an achievement in itself.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the thousands of visitors this summer as soon as we open on July 20."
Runners from March Athletics Club, Fenland Running Club and Sublime Timing have already tested the maze as details of The Skylark Run were unveiled.
The run will feature a 10km, 5km and family mile with routes around the Fenland countryside and landscaped fishing lakes that are not normally open to the public.
Organisers say runners will be precision chip timed with online registration and a professional race management team will ensure the event is meticulously planned to be safe and fun.
Registration details are to be announced.
The Skylark Maize Maze and Funyard has various other family-friendly activities with a new giant paddling pool also launched this year.
