The controversial application to demolish the Horsefair Car Park in Wisbech has been withdrawn from Fenland District Council’s planning portal.
NewRiver Retail, the owners of the Horsefair Shopping Centre, had notified planners that it was going to be knocking down the multi storey car park.
But shocked residents and councillors were concerned about the loss of disabled parking, parking for those using the bus station and visitors to North Cambs Hospital.
Now planning consultants Q+A Planning Ltd working on behalf of the applicant formally confirmed the application is withdrawn yesterday (Monday).

Danielle Brooke, Senior Development Officer at Fenland District Council, responded: “I can confirm that the application has now been cancelled in our register.
“Should you wish to resubmit this application I strongly advise that you first contact the above named officer to obtain further advice and guidance.”
The application was first submitted on July 8, 2024.
A fortnight later, Fenland District Council issued a press release explaining the demolition would be taking place under the legal term “Permitted Development Rights”.
This means the owner does not require planning permission to go ahead.
Councillors shared concerns about the plans - but were advised they have no power to intervene.
NewRiver Retail’s original application on the planning portal mentioned a food store would be built on the site.
Fenland council explained that council or local councillors could only offer their views when the owner shares those plans or submits a planning application.
