A planning application seeking permission for nine new homes in March will be decided today (August 7).
A Fenland District Council Planning Committee meeting will be held at 1pm today where the fate of the proposed new homes will be sealed.
In March 2024, the council received a planning application for permission to build nine new homes on Brownlows Yard, Creek Road in March. The applicants, Mr Brownlow and Ms Davies, hoped to build two-storey houses on the land, but they have come into some difficulty in the planning process.
Concerns have been raised over the risk of flooding at Brownlows Yard, which has led to planning officers at Fenland District Council recommend refusal of the plans.
In the Executive Summary of the Officer's Report, it states: "By virtue of its location and land use, within an area of high and medium risk of surface water flooding, and its failure to pass the Sequential Test, the proposed development would have unacceptable surface water flood risks.
"It is therefore considered that the location and land use of the proposed development are not acceptable."
However, the council received nine representations of support from local residents. They said that the area is in "much need" of new housing and that it would bring new people to the area as well as boost the economy.
March Town Council also recommended approval of the plans.
Cllr Tim Taylor on Fenland District Council recommended refusal. He said: "I have to recommend refusal on the above application. Our drainage catchment is at capacity to deal with anymore surface water.
"Thus allowing anymore developments will potentially have catastrophic consequences with potential flooding within Fenland."
The decision will be made at 1pm today.
