Fenland District Council (FDC) is looking to install new sports areas with calls for public feedback shaping the plans.
FDC is workshopping proposals for four sport pitches in partnership with Premier League, The FA and the Government’s Football Foundation.
The concept 'PlayZones' aim to offer areas for multiple sports like football, netball, cricket, basketball, hockey and rugby, based on public choice.
To acquire funds from the Football Foundation PlayZones Programme, the council is reliant on providing evidence of usage for these proposed facilities.
This is where public opinion enters the process.
Residents of Fenland are being encouraged to participate in a survey, which will help identify which sports would be most popular in the potential PlayZones.
Cllr Alex Miscandlon said: “This is an exciting opportunity to get some new and improved sports areas.
“We’ve chosen the proposed locations carefully based on land that can be made available for them, where we think there’ll be valuable to local communities and sites that we believe can meet the funding criteria.
“We now want to hear from our communities to help us show the appetite for these facilities and help us decide the correct surfaces to use if they go ahead to make them as useful as possible for the sports and activities people want to use them for.”
The district council is considering locations including March, Whittlesey and two different sites in Wisbech.
To gain views on these PlayZones, the council is requesting residents to fill out a survey accessible online or via paper copies available upon request. Email activefenlandbookings@fenland.gov.uk
Residents have until Sunday, September 8 to complete the survey.
The survey results will significantly influence the final funding application to the Football Foundation as well as the chosen sports surfaces.
Should the approval be granted, the construction of the PlayZones will abide by standard planning regulations.
