Amidst new Winter Fuel Payment (WFP) changes, Citizens Advice Rural Cambs (CARC) has issued guidance to assist those concerned about affording energy bills this winter.
The Chancellor recently revealed modifications to the WFP, a one-off annual payment benefitting pensioners with heating costs.
From now on, only individuals on Pension Credit or other means-tested benefits will be eligible for WFP, causing confusion and concern amongst those who had incorporated WFP into their budgeting plans.
Nick Blencowe, chief officer of CARC, addresses this, offering advice on managing energy bills.
Mr Blencowe said: “People might be worried about how this change will affect them, but there are other ways - depending on the type of energy you use and how you pay - that you can get energy bill support this winter."

He furthermore stressed the importance for those eligible for Pension Credit to claim it, given that roughly a third of those entitled are currently not claiming this benefit.
Pension Credit is a weekly benefit designed to increase your income, depending on your financial circumstances.
It is viable for application if you've reached State Pension age.
CARC suggested talking to your energy supplier if struggling with energy bills, as they’re obligated to help form a viable solution, such as an affordable repayment plan.
Fuel vouchers are available for people using a prepayment meter who can't afford to top up.
Local councils may offer aid in procurement of these vouchers.
Additionally, local energy grants may be obtainable, designed as a support in emergency situations.
Organisations like CARC can also provide guidance on applications for these grants.
Additional non-financial support can be provided by your gas and electricity supplier if signing up to the Priority Services Register.
