A charity football match in memory of a former employee was organised by a Cambridgeshire business.
The game was organised by Greencore in aid of 8:56 Foundation and Centre 33 to remember, Josh Berry who took his own life in January after struggling with poor mental health.
Councillor Sidney Imafidon, the Mayor of Wisbech, attended the event on August 6, along with other representatives of Wisbech Town Council.
Councillor Imafidon reflected on the event, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to attend and offer condolences to Josh's family.
He said: “I was honoured to have received an invitation and to have the opportunity to offer my heartfelt condolences to Josh’s family, who were also at the match.
"Mental health is a topic that is very close to my heart."
Ashley Gower, a staff member at Greencore, organised the charity match in an attempt to shed light on mental health issues and raise funds for a related charity.
He said: “After Josh’s death, it was important to me to do whatever I could do to avoid other people falling in the same situation.
"I am grateful that Greencore has been so supportive, and I would like to thank my colleagues, Josh’s family and Councillor Imafidon for attending the event.”
Greencore's general manager, Paul Biggs, highlighted the significance of the event to Greencore's staff, saying: “It was important to our colleagues that we did something to remember Josh, and to help others who may find themselves in a difficult situation."
Greencore is a leading UK manufacturer of convenience food, supplying major supermarkets and numerous retail outlets.
