Two friends are set to take on three of the best-known hills in the Yorkshire Dales National Park to help raise funds for a cancer charity.
Phillip Karrwowski and Ryan Nottage will conquer not one, not two, but three mountains totalling more than 3,000 metres on July 28 next year in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Normally completed over a period of three days, the pair are aiming to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours.
Phillip and Ryan met while at King Edwards Junior School and later became friends at Cromwell Community College in Chatteris.
They said they decided to take on the challenge in memory of a number of "loved ones" who lost their lives to cancer.
Stephen said: "Cancer touches everyone in some way. It can be someone we know, a family member, someone we worked with, even someone we studied with.
"We have both lost loved ones to cancer. All the pain and suffering this disease causes to the individual, the family and friends; it's hard.
"This is why we are raising money for Macmillan Cancer support. They go all out to support the person and their families through this challenging time.
"Macmillan gives people with cancer everything they’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan is doing whatever it takes. But without your help, the charity can’t support everyone who needs them."
The pair will start with the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis, before travelling to the Lake District to scale Scafel Pike.
Once they complete England's highest mountain, Phillip and Ryan will head to Wales to climb Yr Wyddfa, previously known as Snowdon.
Ryan added: "The clock starts when we set off on the first hike up Nevis and the time finishes once we have completed Yr Wyddfa at the summit. The travel between peaks also counts towards the challenge.
"We understand the challenge ahead of us. This is no short hop or easy ride. We have been training since October 2023 and are still getting our bodies and minds ready."
