Burrowmoor Primary Academy has launched a skipping programme to promote physical activity during lunchtimes.
This initiative was made possible by a donation from the Learn-2-Live Well fund.
The fund not only kick-started the skipping initiative but also supplied resources to improve playtime with outdoor games and equipment.
The programme began with a visit from "Dan the Skipping Man," who designed a custom programme for the school.
Twenty Year 6 students, dubbed the Skipping Squad, were trained by Dan in various skipping techniques.
They will lead the school in daily skipping activities.
The Learn-2-Live Well fund provided each student with a skipping rope for school and home use, along with a Skipping Squad booklet to track their progress.
The fund also arranged training sessions for midday supervisors.
This means the school has a daily Skipping Zone, led by the trained Year 6 squad.
The school spokesperson said: "The Learn-2-Live Well fund has been instrumental in making this initiative a reality.
"Not only have we been able to launch our skipping program, but we’ve also enhanced the overall playtime experience with new games and revitalized our Buddy Benches.
"The Year 6 students have done an incredible job as skipping ambassadors, and we are proud of the way they have embraced this challenge."
The fund has also helped rejuvenate the Buddy Benches, promoting inclusivity and friendship during breaks.
Jenga, draughts, and badminton sets have also been introduced to make playtime more engaging.
The school's staff played crucial roles in the programme's success, with key staff reaching out to Year 6 students to join the Skipping Squad and providing guidance during sessions.
Burrowmoor Primary Academy says it is confident that this combination of skipping, outdoor games, and a supportive environment will continue to foster physical health, teamwork, and friendship among the students.
