A shocking new picture shows the devastating aftermath of a fire that ripped through a tractor and its trailer on a major Cambridgeshire road yesterday.
Emergency services were called to scene at Ireton's Way between Mepal and Chatteris on October 6.
A number of eyewitnesses reported passing a tractor on its side in flames while photos appeared to show fire engines blocking the road as crews dealt with the blaze.
Fire crews from Chatteris, March and Ely attended the blaze which closed the road and caused significant damage to the carriageway's surface.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the fire was put out at 9.45am.
The road reopened shortly after the fire was extinguished.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson confirmed no injuries had been reported.
According to local commuters, significant delays still remain, with the vehicle's burnt out remains still on the roadside.
Taking to social media, one motorist said: "50 minutes to do a 20 minute journey on the A142.
"Reason for the heavy, slow traffic was not an accident, but so much rubbernecking the burnt out, overturned tractor and trailer. As soon as we got passed it the traffic moved more freely."
