Network Rail has confirmed its plans surrounding two upcoming crossing closures in March after a parent with a severely disabled daughter shared her concerns with the Cambs Times.
Lisa Hill, whose daughter has cerebral palsy, is tube-fed and also uses suction to clear her airways, feared they would be 'trapped in their own home' if Whitemoor Road and Middle Road were to close at the same time on two weekends.
The initial dates and times for work to 'renew' the track were 3am Saturday October 13 to 3.50am Monday October 14 and 3am Saturday October 19 to 3am Monday October 21.
A letter to residents from Network Rail's community relations manager last week stated that "this type of work must be done when trains aren't running because we'll need to have our staff and equipment on the track.
"That's why we'll be doing a lot of the work over evenings and weekends. I'm sorry for any disruption this work may cause."
Lisa Hill however contacted the Cambs Times to say "this would put us in a very precarious predicament by planning to close both of our crossings.
"It would mean my severely disabled daughter's carers cannot access our road, even though she relies on another human for lie, and we would also be trapped in our home," she said.
The Cambs Times has since contacted Network Rail who confirmed that the works will be carried out on separate weekends.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: "Our teams will be replacing track near March over two weekends (October 12-14 and October 19-21). This will help us continue to run a safe and reliable railway.
"The Whitemoor and Middle Road level crossings will need to be closed at times while the work takes place, but we’ll make sure that when one is closed, the other is available for people to use, so residents will always have access to their properties."
