A loud explosion - thought to be a sonic boom - was heard by residents across Fenland this morning.
Homeowners in Doddington, Wimblington, Benwick, March and Chatteris reported hearing two loud bangs at around 8.30am on Thursday October 17.
"We thought something was coming in the roof," said a local homeowner.
"It sounded like an explosion and the whole ceiling vibrated!
"My dogs ran in from the garden terrified."
The loud bang also set off car alarms and vibrated windows.
Paul Wright managed to capture a photo of one of the jets.
We have contacted the local aviation authority and Ministry of Defence for comment.
What is a sonic boom?
According to Wikipedia, a sonic boom is a sound associated with shock waves created when an object travels through the air faster than the speed of sound. Sonic booms generate enormous amounts of sound energy, sounding similar to an explosion or a thunderclap to the human ear.
